CECELIA is a resin sculpture of a woman with an octopus on her head.
The original name of this piece was Cecaelia (pronunced zɛ-zɛ-lɪɑ), in reference to the mitological creature half woman and half octopus, typical of the japanese culture. Octopus is a very fascinating creature to the artist, who has used it in different pieces (Octopus girl, Turquoise Octopus Girl, la Chica y el Pulpo): they can squeeze themselves into tiny holes, change shape and color, they are a great metaphor for transformation, change and self challenging.
This piece is part of the collection Disfraces e Identidad (Customs and Identities), where Francesca explores different aspect of the person identity, and how people wear roles and personalities according to the situation.
In this serie, the artist wonders what is the true self, and what is a lie we tell other and the society.
This piece is hand painted with oil colors.
This is a unique piece and there is no other like it
