Beyond Human - Collective Exhibition

There is something uniquely stirring about placing contemporary sculpture against the backdrop of 16th-century stone. On September 2nd, the exhibition "Beyond Human," curated by the perceptive Marcela Damigella and organized by MateriArte Gallery from Ortigia, officially opened its doors at the magnificent Museo Civico di Noto. Being there to witness it come to life was an experience I will carry with me for a very long time.

Opening night carried an electric yet wonderfully intimate energy. We were joined by the Vice-Mayor of Noto, the gallery team, and six of the invited artists who traveled to celebrate this dialogue between eras. Standing in the historic halls of the museum, surrounded by centuries of architectural memory, contemporary artistic visions began to converse across time.

For this exhibition, I presented five completely unpublished, original sculptures. Seeing them exist in this space—engaging directly with both the historic 1500s stone walls and the powerful paintings and sculptures of renowned fellow artists—evoked a delicate, deliberate harmony. The curatorial vision struck a rare balance: nothing felt out of place, and every piece held its ground while enriching the narrative around it. Seeing my own work breathe within that historic architecture left me genuinely moved and profoundly grateful.

Beyond the art itself, what stays with me most is the warmth of the reception. From the Materia Arte Gallery team to the local community in Noto and Ortigia, the generosity, kindness, and openness I encountered made the entire journey unforgettable. Sicily has a way of embracing you not just as a visitor, but as part of its living story.
