CATRINO is a bronze sculpture of a man with a skull hat.
The title is the male version of catrina, a dame of death: according to urban legend, La Catrina’s roots come from Aztec death goddess Mictecacihuatl. In the legend, the goddess served the same purpose as La Catrina does today: to honor and protect those who have passed and to symbolize the relationship Mexicans have with death.
This piece is part of the collection Disfraces e Identidad (Customs and Identities), where Francesca explores different aspect of the person identity, and how people wear roles and personalities according to the situation. In this serie, the artist wonders what is the true self, and what is a lie we tell other and the society.
This piece is hand painted with oil colors.
This is a unique piece and there is no other like it.
